Theoretical Foyer was a public installation that existed from August 2017 until 2019. It was one of five Washington Street installations for the Exhibit Columbus 2017 Exhibition program. The concept is essentially based around an imaginary tessellated floor that “theoretically” unifies every building and structure in Columbus and acknowledges the spiritual, aesthetic, and civic significance of the cities heritage. That floor doesn’t exist in real space, but the Foyer does exist as a symbolic representation of an entryway into the town. Its genesis was inspired by architect Paul Kennon’s effort to unify downtown Columbus with a connected framework of clay pavers, as well as Alexander Girard’s textiles and his work with pattern and color.
